MFIVE is fortunate to have assembled a management team that embodies these characteristics. MFIVE’s staff has over fifty (50) years of collective experience in the hockey industry and proven track record of success in recruiting and managing elite athletes. During this period, we have consistently negotiated above market contracts on behalf of our clients.
Anton Thun
Co-Managing Director
Anton earned his law degree from the University of Western Ontario (‘82). He was admitted to the Law Society of Upper Canada (governing body for lawyers within the province of Ontario) in 1984 and remains in good standing today. Anton is also a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Sports Lawyers Association and the National Sports Law Institute.
Anton began his legal career in 1984 and advanced within his profession becoming a partner in a Toronto based Law firm, where he worked within the Mergers & Acquisitions Department and the Bank Finance Department. He resigned his position in 1995 to devote his full time to managing professional athletes.
In 1983, while still performing his law student articles, Anton incorporated AKT Sports and began representing professional hockey players. He represented his first NHL client in 1985 and has continuously represented NHL players since that time, including Stanley Cup Champions such as Mike Ricci and Kirk Maltby. As a product of the respect Anton has garnered within the hockey community, he was offered the Assistant General Manager position with the New York Rangers in 1989, a position he declined. Additionally, Anton was selected as one of the finalists for the position of Executive Director of the NHLPA, which position was awarded to Bob Goodenow.
KENT HUGHES
Co-Managing Director
Kent graduated from Middlebury College in 1992 with a Major in Economics where he captained the men’s varsity hockey team. Following college, Kent played professionally in Sweden’s First Division before returning to the United States to complete his law degree at Boston College (’96). Kent was admitted to Commonwealth of Massachusetts Bar and certified by the NHLPA in 1996.
He began his career in 1993 working for a Boston based law firm which represented several prominent NHL players before moving on to form Impact Hockey through which he represented numerous professional hockey players since 1997. He successfully negotiated an 11 year extension for Vinny Lecavalier, making him the highest paid player in the NHL over the likely term of his contract.
In addition to representing numerous professional hockey players, Kent has represented Cammi Granato, the captain of the 1998 Olympic Gold Medal winning U.S. Women’s Ice Hockey Team and Cristie Kerr, currently the #2 ranked golfer in the world according to the LPGA Rolex rankings. In such capacity, Kent has secured and negotiated endorsement contracts with numerous fortune 500 companies including the likes of Nike, Sony, Qwest, Mutual of Omaha, John Hancock, AT&T and General Motors
Paul Capizzano
Toronto Office
Paul is an NHLPA Certfified agent, who earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Marketing and Management at Mercyhurst College(’95). While completing his degree, “Capi” lettered for four years while playing on the varsity hockey team.
Capi is an NHLPA certified agent. He joined our team in 1998. Capizzano is easily one of the most recognized people in arenas throughout eastern Canada and the northeastern United States. He was recognized by The Hockey News as one of the most influential people in hockey under the age of 40. He has proven to be a dynamic personality and invaluable in guiding MFIVE clients through their amateur and professional careers.He has proven to be a dynamic personality and invaluable in guiding MFIVE clients through their amateur and professional careers. Additionally, Capi has been responsible for identifying and recruiting several of our elite NHL players.
Phil Lecavalier
Montreal Office
Phil earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from Clarkson University with concentrations in marketing and technical communications (’97). Lecavalier lettered for four years while playing on the varsity hockey team. After graduating, Lecavalier joined Bauer Nike Hockey Inc., where he worked in the Global Marketing and Product Development division.
Phil is an NHLPA Certified Agent. He joined our team in 2000, bringing with him valuable marketing knowledge and expertise. Phil has been primarily responsible for our player recruitment, player development and player servicing within the Province of Quebec and in Atlantic Canada and has been a key element in the successful recruitment of our talented group of elite amateur and NHL players. Phil is a bright, diligent and organized worker, who has effectively guided our clients from the moment he joined our team.
James Troy
Boston Office
Jim brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to MFIVE. His professional hockey career included stays with the following National Hockey League/World Hockey Association teams: New York Rangers, Hartford Whalers and Edmonton Oilers. Following his playing career Jim remained in the hockey community where he worked as an amateur scout for the New York Rangers, as well as a coach and general manager in the AHL and ECHL. In 1983, Jim left hockey to take a position with the World Wrestling Federation as Senior Vice President of the WWF’s parent company Titan Sports. After nine years at Titan Sports, he started his own consulting business and worked for “BSKY B” in London and “Star TV” in Hong Kong negotiating rights for sports programming for the networks on their pay and pay per view television platforms.
Jim returned to his hockey roots in October, 2003 when he joined our team as the Director of Recruiting for the United States. In this capacity he is responsible for the recruitment and servicing of our clients at the prep, junior, National Team and collegiate levels in the United States.
